ANKARA, Turkey -- One member of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) was killed and two were injured on Monday (July 28th) in a failed attack on a police station in the eastern province of Bingol. Officials say the three assailants, armed with weapons and explosives, arrived in a taxi they had commandeered. Police officers opened fire, hitting all three, Bingol Governor Irfan Balkanlioglu said.
On Sunday, a mine planted by PKK members killed three civilians in the southeast province of Hakkari. The Anadolu news agency says the family members died when their truck struck the land mine. (Anadolu news agency, Reuters, Xinhua, CNN Turk - 28/07/08, Hurriyet, Anadolu news agency - 27/07/08)
