BUCHAREST, Romania -- Romania launched investigations into 95 suspected fraud cases in 2007, more than any other EU member state, according to the annual report by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), published on Tuesday (July 22nd). The report pointed out that 60% of the investigations opened in 2007 came from five member states -- Romania, Italy, Germany, Bulgaria and Belgium. The OLAF report covered several areas such as agriculture, customs transit, cigarettes, pre-accession funds and structural funds. A European Commission report on fund management and the judicial system in Romania and Bulgaria is expected on Wednesday. (HotNews, Mediafax, Agerpres - 22/07/08)
