Fried visits Cyprus to support reunification process

NICOSIA, Cyprus -- US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel Fried arrived Sunday (July 6th) in Cyprus to reiterate US support for the new reunification process between the Greek and Turkish communities on the divided island. Fried will meet with Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofias and Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou, Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat and UN envoy Taye-Brook Zerihoun. The new initiative on the settlement of the Cypriot issue, which was launched in March, aims at reviving direct reunification talks in September.
