BUCHAREST, Romania -- Romania has no intention of recognising the independence of Kosovo, President Traian Basescu said on Saturday (May 10th), in a letter sent to the ambassadors of EU countries in Bucharest. He denied recent reports about a possible shift in Romania's stance. "It is absolutely impossible for our country to take any other position on this problem," Basescu said, vowing that Romania would never extend recognition.
In other news, the Austrian parliament announced Friday (May 9th) that it is sending 35 people in Kosovo to join the EU's police and judicial mission in Kosovo (EULEX). The Austrian delegation, which is due to be deployed in Kosovo on June 30th, will include 25 police officers and ten employees of the Austrian Justice Ministry. (AFP, BTA, Xinhua - 10/05/08)
