Greek police use tear gas to disperse group favouring legalised cannabis

ATHENS, Greece -- Police used tear gas Saturday (May 3rd) to disperse a crowd of young people in Athens who demonstrated to support the legalisation of marijuana for medical purposes. Authorities say clashes began near a students' campus and lasted for about three hours. The crowd burned tyres and blocked traffic on a busy road near the campus. There were no reports of arrests or injuries. The demonstration took place in the Agriculture Faculty of the Athens University. (Makfax, MIA, AP - 03/05/08)
