Thousands of Kosovo workers protest for more rights

PRISTINA, Kosovo -- The Union of Independent Trade Unions staged a protest Thursday (May 1st) to mark International Workers' Day and demanded that institutions "bring back their workers' dignity". The protesters want workers' rights, collective contracts and alternative privatisation processes. Thousands of protesters in Pristina said the government is systematically violating workers' rights. They demanded improvement in both the public and private sectors. Union chief Haxhi Arifi accused the institutions of lacking a strategy to resolve such problems.
