Ankara condemns shooting of Turkish fisherman in Bulgarian waters

ANKARA, Turkey -- The foreign ministry on Saturday (April 19th) condemned an incident last week, in which a Turkish fisherman who entered Bulgarian territorial waters was shot dead by Bulgarian border police. In an official statement, the ministry said that similar actions against fishermen based on allegations of illegal activity are "unacceptable". On Thursday, as border police tried to arrest three poachers on the Rezovo River, a gun discharged, killing one man. The other two were arrested. (AFP, Haberler, BTA, Anadolu news agency - 19/04/08)
