Ban Ki-moon confirms nomination of Alexander Downer as his advisor on Cyprus

NEW YORK, United States/NICOSIA, Cyprus -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon wrote to the UN Security Council on Friday (July 11th) confirming his intention to appoint former Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer as his new special advisor on Cyprus. Ban's spokesman, Farhan Haq, confirmed that the secretary-general will meet Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofias in Paris on Sunday and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat in Berlin on Tuesday.
