Former Australian foreign minister likely to become new UN envoy to Cyprus

CANBERRA, Australia -- Former Foreign Minister Alexander Downer is reportedly set to be the new UN envoy to Cyprus, Australian media reported on Monday (June 30th). If approved, he would replace current envoy Taye-Brook Zerihoun.

In other news, Cypriot President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat will meet on Tuesday to assess the progress of preliminary talks on a new initiative to reunify Cyprus.
