PIC board names Slovak diplomat Lajcak as new High Representative in BiH

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- The Peace Implementation Council Steering Board announced on Friday (May 11th) that it decided to appoint the Slovak diplomat Miroslav Lajcak as the next High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Lajcak will succeed Germany's Christian Schwarz-Schilling, whose mandate is set to expire on June 30th.

Leading BiH politicians, including the BiH presidency's incumbent Chairman Nebojsa Radmanovic, praised the appointment of Lajcak, saying they expected good co-operation with the new envoy. (Dnevni Avaz, Nezavisne Novine, RTRS - 12/05/07; OHR Sources - 11/05/07)
