22/08/2004

BANJA LUKA, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) -- Republika Srpska Police Director Radomir Njegus said Friday (20 August) that he has dismissed the chief of the Banja Luka regional police department, Zeljko Spasojevic, and appointed Boro Ljubanic to the post. Njegus told a news conference that Spasojevic was fired for "professional reasons" but did not elaborate.

In other news, SFOR personnel searched the premises of the former Bijeljina sugar factory Friday. The action, conducted in co-operation with the Bijeljina police, was aimed at uncovering illegal weapons and military equipment. SFOR says the fact that nothing was found is a good sign.
